Carmike Cinemas Sets Purple Rain Tribute Screenings In Memory of Prince

Released by Gina McKenzie, gemPR.biz via PR Newswire

Carmike Cinemas, Inc. has scheduled special, limited screenings of Prince’s Oscar and Grammy award-winning Purple Rain (1984) for April 23-28, 2016. The film will be presented on the big screen, as it was meant to be seen, for fans to gather, remember and experience as a community this once-in-a-lifetime artist.

As Greg Kilday of Billboard says, Prince “burst onto the scene with his very first film, 1984’s quasi-autobiographical Purple Rain.”

At the time of film’s release, Entertainment Weekly’s Owen Gleiberman wrote, “Prince magnetizes the camera with The Stare — a rivetingly narcissistic, come-hither gaze that’s equal parts genetics, attitude, and eyeliner.”

Purple Rain will be presented in approximately 80 theaters across 24 states, with locations listed below. (Ed. Note: A showing is planned in Grand Junction CO, and in eight NC cities.)

Showtimes can be found at www.Carmike.com. Carmike is finalizing showtimes and continues to add locations, so fans are encouraged to check the link periodically for availability in their area.
