Braswell Memorial Library, located at 727 N Grace Street, Rocky Mount NC, offers programs for adults and teens alongside SCORE programs for business. Check out the programs scheduled for Fall 2017.

Adult Programs

Picturing America: Land of Opportunity

Braswell Library Presents the Let’s Talk About It program, made possible by a North Carolina Humanities Council grant. The dates are September 21 & 28, October 12 & 26, and November 9, 2017.

Held 6-7:30pm in the library’s Computer Lab on each listed date, this series will discuss America as a land where social justice was possible, the poor and oppressed would find opportunity, and the ambitious and adventurous could make their fortunes. Presenters include:

  • September 21: Scholar Karin Zipf will be discussing the book “ All the King’s Men” by Robert Penn Warren.
  • September 28: Scholar Sue Ross will be discussing the book “ Dreaming in Cuban” by Cristina Garcia.

Classic Movie & Munchies

The classic movie, King Kong (1933), will be shown twice on September 7, 2017 in the Computer Lab. The first showing is 11am-12:30pm, and the second is 5:30-7pm. Snacks will be available.

Good Reads Book Club

On September 25, 2017, 10:30am-noon, the Book Club will be discussing The Keeper’s Son by Homer Hickam. Meet in the Wiley Room. If you would like to become a member of the Book Club, contact Kesha Joyner in advance at 252.442.1951 x.253.

Teen Programs

Popcorn and A Movie

Teens are invited to come and watch a PG movie on September 6, 2017, 5:30-7:30pm, and enjoy popcorn in the Computer Lab. For movie title, call Scott Houston, Teen Programs Librarian, at 252.442.1951 x257 or email.

Teen Minecraft Design Club

Held each month, this club gives teens an opportunity to build, design, and explore using Minecraft. Held 5:30-7:30pm in the Computer Lab, this program is offered September 14 and October 19, 2017.

Teen Game Night

Join the fun and “get your game on” in the Teen Area and Computer Lab at Braswell. Upcoming dates are September 28, October 26, and December 28, 2017, 5:30-7:30pm on each date.

SCORE and Business Programs

SCORE  — the Service Corps of Retired Executives —  is a nonprofit association dedicated to “helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship.”  More information about SCORE is online at www.score.org.

Business Tax Essentials

In addition to the library’s business programs, the NC Department of Revenue’s Business Tax Essentials seminar will be held at Braswell on October 3, 2017, 5:15-7:15pm.
