The Strange-ness: Creepy, Sad, or Just Humans Having Fun with Curiosity Rover

According to NASA, part of the make-up of NASA’s Curiosity rover is the ability to sing “Happy Birthday” every year on the anniversary of its Mars landing.

The Rover celebrates its birthday on August 5. Using its Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) instruments — designed to resonate to grind soil samples of dirt to filter through for analysis — various tones are put together to create the “Happy Birthday” song and play it for poor, lonely Curiosity.

Most recently, the rover birthday was celebrated for the third time on August 5, 2015.
