The Knightdale Town Council authorized the purchase of a new ladder truck at their Work Session meeting on March 2, 2020. The Fire Department’s current vehicle has reached its practical and effective life after being in service since 2008.

Chief Loren Cone presented the recommendation based on the findings of the Fire Department’s Apparatus Selection Committee. He stated,

“the Knightdale Fire Department is excited at the prospect of this new piece of equipment. As we continue to adapt to the needs of our growing community, a new Aerial Ladder will help us continue to meet our mission while demonstrating our commitment to the safety of our citizens.”

The new ladder truck will be supplied by Atlantic Emergency Solutions and built by Pierce Manufacturing. It will function as a dual purpose apparatus for the Town.

Dual purpose means that it will serve as both an Engine and an Aerial Ladder depending on the emergency situation. The truck will consist of a single-axle chassis and incorporate a 107′ straight ladder. The unit will be equipped with a 1500-gallon-per-minute pump with a capacity of 500 gallons of water.

The Town Council unanimously approved the recommendation with a total estimated cost of $1.25 million upon service deployment. Delivery of the vehicle is expected in December 2020.
