Rocky Mount Event Center Consultant Charles Penny and John McDonald, vice president and account executive for Sports Facilities Management, updated the Rocky Mount City Council on the progress happening at the center.
The update, provided during the council’s Committee of the Whole meeting held Monday, August 13, 2018, noted that the center’s final completion date will be October 22, 2018. However, according to McDonald, staff have already booked 17 sporting events and 15 events for the small meeting rooms and reception area. The center most recently signed three contracts with Big Shots Basketball. Said McDonald:
“With Big Shots, we will be bringing over 300 teams to Rocky Mount. Additionally, three volleyball tournaments have been scheduled, and there is a strong interest in the Family Entertainment Center.”
According to Penny, the Family Entertainment Center is being installed this week, while the clinic space and banquet rooms are also being completed. Mammography equipment for the clinic will be installed October 1-5, 2018.
In the next two weeks, preparations will also be made to pave the final portion of the parking lot.
The public is invited to the center’s free grand-opening celebration on October 25, 2018, starting at 4:30pm.
The Rocky Mount Event Center will also host the Harlem Globetrotters on November 4, 2018, at 4pm. Tickets for the Harlem Globetrotters went on sale August 17 so reserve yours today.
