The Wayne County Historical Association and Museum has received $4,000 NC CARES: Humanities Relief Grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council. This emergency grant funding was provided to North Carolina cultural organizations experiencing hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are extremely grateful and honored to be one of the 59 organizations selected for this funding” said Jennifer Kuykendall, Executive Director, Wayne County Museum.

This important funding will support virtual tours of the Museum and interviews with elders in our community to create a “living history library” that we will share on our website. We will be able to maintain community engagement and share the culturally diverse history of Wayne County. With this funding, we will be able to continue to educate and share local history on a virtual platform until the pandemic allows for visitation.

The museum is located at 116 N William Street, Goldsboro, North Carolina. For more information on the Wayne County Museum, visit waynemuseum.org. Follow museum updates on Facebook and Twitter.

NC CARES: Humanities Relief Grant funding was provided to the North Carolina Humanities Council by the National Endowment for the Humanities through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed by Congress in late March 2020. The $2.2 trillion CARES package included $75 million for the National Endowment for the Humanities, nearly $30 million, or a total of 40%, of which was sent to the 56 state and jurisdictional humanities councils, including the North Carolina Humanities Council, to distribute to local cultural nonprofits and programming. The North Carolina Humanities Council is a statewide nonprofit and affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
