The Rocky Mount, North Carolina Public Works Department will move its scheduled July compost giveaway to the second week of the month in observance of the July 4th holiday.

The compost giveaway will be held July 12-13, 2019.

Compost is made when leaves from the city of Rocky Mount’s loose leaf collection program are processed and decay into an organic material used to improve soil structure and provide nutrients. Residents may use compost to improve areas of poor soil quality.

The compost site is located at 394 Arrow Road, Rocky Mount, NC, and is best accessed by making the second right after crossing the I-95 bridge on Sunset Avenue (if traveling west). Arrow Road will turn into a dirt street, and the compost site is located on the left after approximately one quarter of a mile.

Compost giveaway normally is scheduled every Friday and the first Saturday of each month (April-October).
