Local actors will bring a well-known play to the Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences this spring. Jesus Christ Superstar, a timeless rock/opera classic, will run consecutive weeks in March at the Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences.
The cast is made up of more than 40 local actors, ranging in age from pre-teen to their 60s.
Artistic and Managing Director Brooke Edwards said the time is right to perform the show in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, as Jesus Christ Superstar continues a wave of popularity following a live production of the show in 2018 on NBC.
Jesus Christ Superstar typically is based on the final week of Jesus’ life and deals with themes regarding betrayal, truth and love.
Edwards, who will direct the shows, said the upcoming shows will deal with similar themes but in modern terms. Edwards also said:
“I love the great mix of people we get who work together. It’s truly a community effort, and we have a lot of talent in this area.”
