Family-friendly, free movie nights are starting again in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Lawn Chair Theatre, presented by PNC and hosted by the city of Rocky Mount and the Rocky Mount Rotary Club, will begin May 18, 2018 at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex. Event opens at 6pm, with the movie showing at 8:30pm.
**UPDATE: Due to the weather, the May 18, 2018 Lawn Chair Theater has been cancelled. The next scheduled Lawn Chair Theater will be held June 15, 2018 at 7pm on the Imperial Centre lawn.**
According to Sheila Long, recreation services supervisor at the Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences, the May 18 event will serve not only as a kickoff for the annual Lawn Chair Theatre series, it will also serve as one event for the” Tackle the Tar” weekend festivities. Tackle the Tar is a 5K obstacle course race starting at 9am on Saturday, May 19, 2018. Said Long:
“This will be a fun weekend the entire family can enjoy. This is the second year the Imperial Centre has teamed up with the Rocky Mount Rotary Club in helping us to start our Lawn Chair Theatre series presented by PNC. Because Tackle the Tar has become an annual and very popular event, we thought this would be a great collaboration, and thus far, it has worked out well for all involved because this weekend truly offers something for everyone.”
(Canceled) The May 18 Lawn Chair Theatre will include live music, bounce houses, activities, food trucks, local vendors, artists, crafts people, and more, in addition to the featured Disney animated film. The kickoff to Lawn Chair Theatre is being held at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex, located at 600 Independence Drive in Rocky Mount NC.
Subsequent Lawn Chair Theatre events will take place on the Imperial Centre lawn, located at 270 Gay Street, Rocky Mount NC. Summer 2018 dates are:

- July 13
- July 27
