Library to Hold Poetry Reading and Recognize 2018 Poetry Contest Winners

The Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield, North Carolina invites the public to a special Poetry Reading, during which winners of the library’s 2018 Poetry Contests will receive their awards.

The Poetry Reading will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018, starting at 2pm, and light refreshments will be provided.  This meeting is open to the public. Come for this special event and meet some of the poetry contest winners. Winners will be presented their ribbons and prizes.

A portion of the event will be “open mic” style, for people interested in reading aloud an original or favorite poem.

For 2018, the library’s Poetry Contest offered two categories for entries: one for Teens and one for Adults.  The winners in each category are:

Teens (Grades 9-12):

  • First Place and winner of a $25 Amazon gift card:  Hail Charles Wesley by Krais Brown
  • Second Place:  The Loss by Reyland Howard
    Third Place:   There is Never Enough Time in the Day by Gabrielle Rose Bryant

Adults (Ages 18+):

  • First Place and winner of a $25 Amazon gift card:  Victorville by T.C. Carter
  • Second Place:  Wake Up to a New Day by Bernardino Hernández Jiménez
  • Third Place:  How We Danced in The Rain by Wynter Coban

The library is located at 305 East Market Street, Smithfield, North Carolina. There is no cost to attend the Poetry Reading.
