Fall has arrived, and the Wayne County Museum has history events planned for October guests — including a brand new exhibit spotlighting the Odd Fellows and their local connections.

The Wayne County Museum is located at 116 N William Street, Goldsboro, North Carolina.

Downtown History Walk

Join the free history walk on Saturday, October 2, 2021, 10:30am. Guided by the Wayne County Museum’s Director. This tour cover the history of Goldsboro and look at various historic sites and buildings downtown.

To participate, meet in the lobby of the Museum prior to the start time. The history walk is limited to the first 15 people (first come, first served), so don’t be late!

Free walking tours take place on the first Saturday of the month, weather permitting, and lasts just over an hour. Next scheduled walk is Saturday, November 6, 2021 @ 10:30-11:45am.

Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.

“Beyond Self: The History of the Odd Fellows in Wayne County” Exhibit Opening

This newly-created Exhibit on the Independent Order of Odd Fellows opens Saturday, October 2, 2021 (10am-6pm), with “IOOF” history, clothing, and artifacts on display. Historical photos of the Odd Fellows’ Goldsboro facilities, shown on the flyer at right, will be included in the exhibit.

The “Beyond Self” exhibit runs from October 2 through January 8, 2022, free to the public, and is open during normal business hours:

  • Tuesdays-Fridays @ 11am-4pm
  • Saturdays @ 10am-6pm

 

Tea with the Queen

On Saturday, October 16, 2021, 2-4 pm (POSTPONED until Spring 2022), “Tea with the Queen” returns! This ticketed fundraiser is a glamorous tea party event with the past and the present Miss Goldsboro and her court.

There will be refreshments, prizes, entertainment, and assorted Princesses in their finery.

Tea party attire is encouraged, and hats for fun. There will be a “Dressed To The Tea Contest” for best dressed participant.

Tombstones & Tales: A Walk Through Willowdale

POSTPONED until October 2022: the Wayne County Museum annual ghost walk through Willowdale cemetery will return in 2022.
