The more than 200 men and women in the Public Works and Water Resources Department who build and maintain much of the public infrastructure of the City of Rocky Mount are there every day, working hard to keep the city moving forward. In recognition of their efforts, the City of Rocky Mount, in conjunction with the American Public Works Association (APWA), will celebrate Public Works Week (PWW) May 15-21, 2016.

The 2016 theme for Public Works Week is “Always There.” According to the APWA, the theme “showcases the pervasiveness of public works. Communities depend on public works, and the men and women of the profession are always there and always ready.”

Says Jonathan Boone, director of Public Works and Water Resources:

“Public Works Week is an opportunity to recognize the many contributions of those employees that work behind the scenes to provide the basic building blocks of our community. Although most of their work happens outside of the public eye, there is not a single day that goes by that their work does not impact the quality of life of every resident in this community. Public Works Week affords us one week out of the year to say thank you, and job well done.”

The City of Rocky Mount will celebrate Public Works Week by hosting the annual Public Works Equipment Show. The show, taking place May 17, 2016, from 4pm to 6pm, will give the public an opportunity to understand the types of equipment used to maintain streets, sidewalks, collect solid waste, maintain the water and sewer system and more. Various tools and equipment used in all eight divisions will be on hand.

The Public Works Equipment Show will be held at the Environmental Services Complex, located at 1221 Thorpe Road, in Rocky Mount NC.
