First Baptist Church of Clayton and Horne Memorial UMC of Clayton have combined their efforts to bring Faith Fair on The Square to the Clayton Town Square on Saturday, September 11, 2021, 4-7pm. This combined, intentional, faith outreach event is for everyone in the community.  Food, music, children’s activities, and fellowship will be at the third-annual event.

This year marks the third-annual event held at Clayton’s Town Square.  Activities for the children include inflatables, yard games, relay races, and so many other things.  There will be a music stage set up that will feature community groups entertaining the event goers throughout the afternoon.

The event is free to attend and hot dog, chips, dessert, and drink will be available at no cost.

Said organizer, Gwen Canady of First Baptist:  “This event started with a desire of the Methodist and Baptist men to join together to cook and serve food for the community. That spark quickly expanded into a full-blown community outreach effort to share the love of Jesus Christ to the whole community by providing an afternoon of food, Christian fellowship, Christian music, and family-friendly activities. It’s been exciting to see the enthusiasm grow as we expand this event each year.”

Canady along with several others plan the event starting in February each year and discuss how to best reach those newcomers and to welcome not only them, but others that do not have a church home.

Rev. Sherrie VanderVeen of Horne Memorial said:  “We wanted to host an event to bring our community together – newcomers, long-time residents, and everyone in-between. Loving our neighbors” means a lot to both of our churches and hosting this event is one way we hope to show it.”

Another intent of this event is to support Clayton Area Ministries (CAM) and the Smithfield Rescue Mission with canned food and financial donations.

Youth from both congregations will help with this event by greeting people, serving food/drinks, cleaning up tables as the event goes on, and having fun with all the activities.

Said Canady:  “It’s a great way for our youth to show the community that they are willing to be servants of not only our Lord God, but to newcomers as well.  We are very proud of them and it will be an event worth attending.  We expect the crowd to be significant and look forward to welcoming everyone to Clayton.”
