The Town of Selma’s Parks and Recreation Department will hold its inaugural CommUNITY Day on Saturday, March 13, 2021, 10am-2pm, in Downtown Selma, North Carolina.
However, CommUNITY Day will carry a secondary name that will pay tribute to the Soul Food Feast of past years. Said Town of Selma Events Coordinator, Melissa Dooley:
“Because COVID-19 will force the event outdoors and limit crowd size, we thought a name change was in order.
“We are taglining this day as A Festival for the Soul in order to keep the momentum from the Soul Food Feast alive.”
The CommUNITY Day will bridge the gap between the 2020 feast and the 2022 feast.
The department plans to block off North Raiford street between Anderson and Waddell streets to easily implement social distancing rules. The main “stage” area will be in front of Town Hall at 114 N Raiford Street, Selma, NC. Angel George will sing, Eric Jackson will speak and there will also be an open mic hour. On Beat Drum Ministry student players from Selma Baptist Church will also perform in front of their studio.
Vendors of all kinds will be on-hand for handmade goods and products, produce and some vendors will have information about their business or organization. For complete information about the event, contact Melissa Dooley, Event Coordinator, at 919.975.1411.
