The Franklin County Arts Council (FCAC) Writers’ Guild will host Fifth Wednesday Writing Retreats on the fifth Wednesday of each month that has a fifth Wednesday in it. These Writers’ Guild events are open to all interested writers, and participation is free. Membership is not required, nor is Franklin County residency.

Join these in-person events and learn about the Writers’ Guild, FCAC, and local resources. For the Retreat portion, bring writing supplies (pens, paper, or PC).

The next Fifth Wednesday Writing Retreat is scheduled for Wednesday, June 30, 2021, starting at 10am.

Agenda:

10am — Arrival, meet and greet at Shelter #23 (bring your own refreshments)

10:30am — Disburse for writing time until 12

noon — Meet back at Shelter #23 for lunch (bring your own food and beverages)

During lunch we will have a brief business meeting

1pm — Share your writing by reading it aloud (in turn, optional)

After the readings, everyone may go forth to write and/or enjoy the park on their own. The park offers a swimming area, fishing pier, hiking trails, and lots of places with picnic tables for writing or communing with nature. The park closes at 9pm.

Visit the Falls Lake State Recreation Area website for details. The Writers’ Guild meeting will take place in Shelter #23, which is located in the Beaverdam Lake Day Use Area. Follow this link (PDF) for a map with the Writers’ Guild meeting address (14600 Creedmoor Road, Wake Forest, NC) and GPS information.  Parking is available a short walk from the shelter, which is near the water. Restrooms are nearby, and are likely to be open during the day.

Announcements and details of future Fifth Wednesday Writing Retreats will be posted on the FCAC website and Facebook page.

Note that it is the summer season at Falls Lake, and there may be an entrance fee of up to $7 for individuals/vehicles.
