Young women are invited to become a part of the Helping Elegant Empowered Little Sisters (HEELS) program sponsored by the city of Rocky Mount, North Carolina’s Parks and Recreation Department.
The free program is designed for young girls and teens to help empower them and build self-esteem and leadership skills. Young women will be supported in achieving physical, mental, social, emotional and economic success.
Weekly speakers will be in attendance, and refreshments will be served.
The program will take place at the Booker T. Washington Community Center every-other Monday from 6-8pm. The kick-off was held on Monday, September 16, 2019.
Said Recreation Program Supervisor Jamel Pitt:
“The HEELS program is off to a fantastic start with fifty participants attending our kickoff event on Sept. 3. We believe that the program will continue to grow and become a great foundation for young girls and teens to find empowerment, mentors and build great leadership skills.”
Word Tabernacle Church Associate Pastor Stephanie Battle spoke at the kick-off event, and future speakers include Emoni Kee, Sauuda Y. Eshae and Keyanna Walston.
