Johnston County Writers Group Events in August 2021

The Johnston County Writers Group, based in Selma-Smithfield, North Carolina, will be holding an in-person monthly meeting and an Open Mic event in August 2021. Non-members are welcome to attend.

Writers Group Monthly Meeting

Thursday, August 12, 2021 @ 6-7pm

At the August 2021 monthly meeting of the Johnston County Writers Group, a presentation will be given on “How to Market Your Book” by local author Oakley Dean Baldwin.

*NOTE: Due to illness,
Oakley Dean Baldwin’s presentation
on “How to Market Your Book”
has been postponed.
The group meeting will still take place at the planned time/date.

This monthly meeting will be held in the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield, 305 E Market Street, Smithfield, NC. Parking is available in the lot behind the library.

The future 2021 monthly meeting dates are September 9, October 14, November 11, and December 9 — meetings start at 6 pm.

Note: The September 9 monthly meeting will feature author Cindy Brookshire, author of A Heart for Selma: 12 Stories of Activate Selma NC, and books will be available for purchase at the August and September events.

Selma Open Mic

Friday, August 27, 2021 @ 6pm (doors open)

Come and share your talent: step up to the mic! Read, perform, tell a story at this event.

The July Selma Open Mic was standing room only! Singers, spoken word poets, writers, and humorists came from Selma and Pine Level, Goldsboro, Greenville, Fayetteville, and Winterville.

No advance registration is required. Five minute limit on readings. Sign up at the podium when you arrive.

Or, come and watch, listen, and enjoy. Open mic runs 6:30-7:30pm.

Held inside Old Fashioned Ice Cream, 124 N Raiford Street, Selma, NC.
