Wilson County Public Library Programs for February 2019

According to Amanda Gardner, Assistant Director of Wilson County Public Library,  the library is “going big on programs for the shortest month of the year.”  Programs for all ages are coming in February 2019 at the Main Library and branch libraries around Wilson County, North Carolina.

The library will host Black History programs throughout the month, along with an increased number of computer classes and STEAM programs. Mark your calendars now and attend a plethora of stimulating, spectacular programs for February.

As part of the ongoing effort to create a teen-friendly library, Wilson County Public Library is seeking input from teens and community partners. Use the survey links:

Tell your teen contacts about the library’s Teen Focus Group on Monday, February 11, 2019, 7-9 pm. in the Main Library Assembly Room.  Pizza will be served and door prizes will be awarded.

The Wilson County Public Library systems Main Library is located at 249 Nash Street W, Wilson NC.

Main Library hours are:

  • Monday-Wednesday: 9am-9pm
  • Thursday-Saturday: 9am-6pm
  • Closed on Sundays (as are the branch libraries)

Join the library for an afternoon with international storyteller Donna Washington.  This special storytelling event will be held in the Youth Services area at the Main Library.

This program is funded by a grant from the Grassroots Grant through the Wilson Arts Council and the NC Arts Council.  Funding is also provided by the Friends of the Wilson County Public Library.

Create Your Own Air Racer*

Tuesday, February 5, 2019 @ 7pm

Participants will build an air racer using supplies from the teacher geek cart.  All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, as adult participation is needed to complete this project.  Ages 5 and up.  Supplies are limited; registration required.

Youth Game Night*

Tuesday, February 12, 2019 @ 6:30-8pm

Board games and interactive toys will be provided.  Enjoy free floating game play with your kids. Please come ready to participate.  Ages 5 and up.  No registration required.

OZOBOTS Programming*

Tuesday, February 19, 2019 @ 7pm

Participants will learn how to use Blockly programming with OZOBOTS.  Supplies are limited; registration required.  Due to complexity, all registered participants must be ages 7 and up.

Lego Club*

Tuesday, February 26, 2019 @ 7pm

A recurring monthly program.  Come ready to be creative and build with Legos.  Age 5 and up.  No registration required.  All Legos will be provided by the library.

Freedman’s Bureau Records: Valuable to All Southern Research

Tuesday, February 26, 2019 @ 7pm

Diane Richard, professional genealogist, will discuss this little known and used record collection that is full of invaluable information for many ancestors, regardless of race or circumstances. After the Civil War many people needed assistance, from maimed soldiers, to widows with children, to the aged and feeble, to newly freed enslaved people and their former owners. Held in the Main Library Assembly Room.
