Wilson County Public Library offers programs for all ages at the Main Library, its five branch libraries, plus Bookmobile access during October 2019.

Founded in 1939, the Wilson County Public Library engages the community and enhances the minds of all ages with programs, lectures, classes, and entertainment.

Main Library hours are: 9am-9pm Monday through Wednesday, and 9am-6pm Thursday through Saturday.

Branch hours vary.

All locations are closed on Sundays.

Let’s Talk About It Book Discussion: Altered Landscapes

Main Library Assembly Room

The Let’s Talk About It series meets every two weeks from August 29 through October 24, 2019.  Light refreshments will be served.  Open to all ages; contact the library for the reading list or to reserve copies of the books.

This project is made possible by funding from the North Carolina Humanities Council, a statewide nonprofit and affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Traci Thompson, Local History and Genealogy Librarian at Braswell Memorial Library and Brenda Dorsett, Wilson County Genealogical Society President, will present a Case Study of Proving Ancestors using DNA.  Traci Thompson will explain how testing the Y-DNA of a direct male line can help focus traditional research, and often help solve genealogical problems, by eliminating unrelated lineages and identifying related ones.  Examples from the Gardner and Godwin families will be used.  Brenda Dorsett will discuss autosomal DNA, and the difficulty of proving the entire line without DNA from all generations, using the Eatmon family as an example.  All are welcome.  No registration required.
