Food, Clothing, Shelter Provided in Rocky Mount

By Kay Whatley, Editor

United Community Ministries serves Rocky Mount by providing homeless, needy families and individuals with food, clothing, and shelter — the basic needs of every human being.

The Community Kitchen and Pantry, in Rocky Mount, provided nearly 34,000 meals and 500 food baskets to over 300 families in 2013-2014, in addition to serving as a storage and distribution point for bulk quantities of food shared with other community agencies.

They also offer a Community Shelter adjoining the kitchen and pantry, and distribute clothing. The Community Shelter shelter works with individuals by providing assessment, referrals, counseling, and job assistance. Its “clothing closet” distributes clothing to needy members of the community.

To reach the Community Shelter and Kitchen regarding donations, or clothing or food needs, call 252.977.9768. They are located at 341 McDonald Street, in Rocky Mount NC.

United Community Ministries also managed The Bassett Center, 916 Branch Street, Rocky Mount, which provided outreach services for homeless and nearly-homeless families/children. Their facilities include a computer lab, library, chapel, and much more.  Residency at The Basset Center includes meals and, according to the website, “intensive case management”.
