You, your friends, family, and co-workers can make a difference in Nash and Edgecombe counties by participating in the Twin Counties Big Sweep Challenge. The event is a way for participants to clean up or improve sites in the area. Keep America Beautiful (KAB) of Nash and Edgecombe counties will provide the necessary supplies for volunteers.

The Twin Counties Big Sweep Challenge will take place Saturday, October 7, 2017, from 8am to 12pm in Rocky Mount and Tarboro. Volunteers will meet at the Battle Park boat ramp, located at the end of Battle Park Lane in Rocky Mount NC. The Tarboro meeting location will be Shiloh Landing, 2233 US Hwy 258 North, Tarboro NC.

“This is an opportunity to rid the Twin Counties of litter along our land and waterways, making this area more attractive to our residents, visitors and potential business owners,” says Cornelia McGee, KAB coordinator.

While the Twin Counties Big Sweep Challenge is a one-day event, the Twin Counties Big Sweep is an ongoing initiative which runs from Friday, September 15, 2017, to Sunday, October 15, 2017. Big Sweep participants may select a site for cleanup.

Volunteers may also participate in the NC Department of Transportation’s fall Litter Sweep until September 30. This is a local effort to help clean up North Carolina’s roadways.

For those who live in the southern part of the county, the town of Castalia will host a cleanup on October 28, 2017, 10am, at the Castalia Community Park, 9656 Main Street (Hwy 58 North), Castalia NC.

“When everybody gets involved, a few hours can make a big difference,” said McGee.
