Area Chambers of Commerce, business groups, local businesses, and organizations hold educational events and provide free business training or networking opportunities. Events listed below may take place in the five-county area — Franklin, Nash, Johnston, Wake, Wilson counties — or beyond into Edgecombe, Wayne, and other eastern North Carolina counties.

Be sure to register with meeting organizer(s) to ensure receipt of cancellation or postponement notices directly. Some events may only be open to members of a chamber and a guest, though we strive to exclude Chamber-only events.

Toast of the Town Gala and Awards Ceremony

How to Start, Grow, Expand and Eatery

Thursday, March 14, 2019 @ 6-9pm

When you start an eatery, whether it will be a coffee coffee, cafe, sandwich shop, or catering business, a good start-up plan is crucial. This workshop covers factors to be considered, and attendees receive a guild. Workshop speaker is Steve Carver.

Annual Meeting and Citizen of the Year Celebration

Tuesday, March 12, 2019 @ 5:30-8pm

Join the Zebulon Chamber of Commerce for their annual meeting, buffet dinner, and Citizen of the Year awards.

Held at the Zebulon Community Center, 301 S Arendell Avenue, Zebulon, NC.

YABA Business Expo 2019

Tuesday, March 12, 2019 @ 4-7pm

The Youngsville Area Business Association (YABA) annual Expo is an opportunity for the public and business people to learn about local businesses and their products and services. Purchase food from one of the food vendors, network, and maybe win a door prize.

Note that for their food vendors and general vendor spaces, the deadline is/was February 22, 2019.

This free workshop is designed for owners or want-to-be-owners of food trucks or restaurants. Learn about marketing a food business.

Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Friday, March 8, 2019 @ 11am-12:30pm

The Nash County Senior Center invites all to come and see the newly-constructed Southern Nash Senior Center. See the recreation and class space, computers, fitness/game facilities, locker rooms, and lounge with wi-fi. The senior center is part of the Nash County Recreation and Senior Services Department.

Distinguished Citizen Awards Ceremony

Thursday, March 7, 2019 @ 7pm (6:30pm meet-greet-refreshments)

Join the Nashville Chamber of Commerce for this 28th-annual event, which highlights several people who are making a difference in the community. There will be presentations of a Junior Achievement Award and Distinguished Citizen Award. The evening’s guest speaker is District Court Judge Pell Cooper.

Spanish for Adults

Thursdays, March 7 through April 4, 2019 @ 6:30pm

Whether for business or individual learning, this multi-week Spanish class offered by Hola Spanish may provide (adults) with basics of the language and beginning communication skills.

SCORE Workshops

Some business-educational events are organized by SCORE at area locations. SCORE — the Service Corps of Retired Executives — is a nonprofit association dedicated to “helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship.”  More information about SCORE is online at www.score.org.


NC Small Business Center Network

In addition to opportunities listed, North Carolina’s community colleges offer free business workshops across the state. Find free “Small Business Center Network” classes by searching at www.ncsbc.net. Topics cover finance, marketing, fundraising, and general business/nonprofit issues alongside specialized classes such as food business creation.
