It is our philosophy to build a solid Arts Foundation,  that serves all ages ranging from preschool ages 3 years old up through age 60+.

It is through these new and innovative outlets that we focus on the importance of The Performing Arts that has the potential to foster comprehensive, intellectual, social, and emotional development for all individuals.

The competition will provide Wilson’s youth an opportunity to display authentic talents in the areas of solo music, band/group music, dance/step and dramatic interpretation. Cash prizes will be awarded and the top performer will be given an opportunity to perform for Pastor Shirley Caesar, Queen of Gospel and will be given a part in the onstage production of the award winning gospel play, “Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child.” This Gospel Drama is written and produced by Dr. Mildred Summerville. All winners will be featured in the “Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child” award-winning Gospel play’s souvenir booklet, The City Insight Magazine, and on www.summervilleproductions.com and www.thecityinsight.com .

The Wilson Idol mission is:

  • To encourage all Wilson County  residents, especially students, to remain in school [document retention and graduation data], and to pursue their personal interests in the performing arts,  which may lead to global exposure  as well as self-gratification.
  • To showcase diversity through the performing arts,  and to provide a public talent expedition for all interested persons,  which allows them to reach their full potential in comprehensive learning.
  • To encourage religious organizations, private corporations, and other businesses to collaborate and partner with  Summerville  Promotion, Production Company in providing innovative activities that affect the performing arts for the city of Wilson NC and surrounding areas.

The goals and objectives of the Summerville Promotion and Production Company and Wilson Idol are to build a solid arts foundation and to provide a public forum for all residents of Wilson. While focusing on the development of  ‘The Total Person,’ our company seeks to enhance the global aspect of performing  arts, and  includes sharing the stage with renown gospel artists, such as Pastor, Shirley Caesar,  Leanne Faine, Dr. Brooksie Harrington and Shawn McLemore. Thus, it is through these new and innovative outlets that we seek to create educational, financial, and artistic performance opportunities for Wilson County youth.

This production is a community effort that strives to increase the overall potential of success in public schools. Empowering the youth will help to facilitate personal development, while strengthening their home, school, and community relationships. Further, SPPC intends to inspire the community and encourages parents to partner with our company and assist with performing arts opportunities.

Correlated with  the 2015 Wilson Idol Talent Show, last year launched the  initiation of the Tall One Champion’s Awards event. This awards program honors individuals for their hard work, perseverance, and meritorious contributions to their communities. The chosen honorees have impacted their communities through various educational initiatives such as the performing arts, community services, and Outreach Ministries.

Last year’s Wilson Idol paid honorable tribute to the following three contestants: Bishop Eloise Sessoms, Ms. Sharetta Blackwell and Minister Michael Boone. These honorees were recognized as the first participants ever chosen for the category of ‘The Tall One Outreach Ministries’ Champion’s division.

Bishop Eloise Sessoms symbolizes the highest ideals of local ministry. Throughout the years she has demonstrated a legacy of faithfulness and charismatic leadership. Without question, she deserves this recognition for her excellence, enthusiasm and humanitarianism. In addition, Bishop Sessoms has consistently demonstrated a strong spiritual conviction that has greatly influenced other ministers, as demonstrated through her empowering leadership, evangelism, teaching, preaching, and community service.

Ms. Sharetta Blackwell represents ideals of “life-Long-Learning” as a mentor and a tutor.  Her moral qualities are above reproach. Ms. Blackwell’s philosophy and work ethic are demonstrated through:  patience, consideration, emotional stability, and good judgment which exemplifies the highest level of excellence. Ms. Blackwell is dedicated to her ministry and the students are the recipients of her dedication and fortitude.

Minister Michael Boone embodies Spiritual Maturity. He is known for his steadfastness to the Christian faith, and he sustains a charismatic spiritual gift that continues to inspire young and old alike.  His love for Christ is personified through his singing ministry and his extensive community work. Most importantly, Minister Boone shares a messages of love to everyone through his diligent church ministry.

Wilson Idol 2016’s special guest and judge will be recording artist Shawn McLemore,  globally recognized for his collaborative work with James Fortune and the musical rendition of  I BELIEVE. Shawn  McLemore is an American gospel musician and leader of New Image. He started his music career, in 1997, with the release of Wait on Him by Verity Records, and this placed his talent on the Billboard magazine Gospel Albums chart. His second album, Sunday Morning: The Live Experience, came out in 2007 with Worldwide Music. The third album, Stand: The Shawn Mac Project, released in 2010 by Black Smoke Music alongside Worldwide Music continues his notoriety. His fourth album, One Percent Miracle: Any Minute Now, was released in 2011 with Black Smoke Music along with Worldwide Music.

Most importantly, Shawn  McLemore was a featured cast member in my award winning production, “Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child” premiering the Queen of Gospel, Pastor Shirley Caesar.

By creating educational and performing arts opportunities for Wilson County and the surrounding areas, Wilson Idol, in conjunction with Summerville Promotion and Production Co.,  and One Outreach Ministries reach out to preschoolers, ages 3 to 5, as an incentive for younger students to acquire social, emotional,  and academic growth in the school environment.  In addition, this educational initiative increases the likelihood of overall success in school.

It is our belief that by empowering the children, it will help them facilitate personal development, while simultaneously strengthening the roles of the home, school, and community as they affect the students of the twenty-first century.
