Farmers Market Kicks Off 2016 Season With Bluegrass and More.

The market will kick off the 2016 season on March 19, 2016, at 5pm. This kick-off includes door prizes and a chance to meet local folks interested in farm-fresh produce and local products. Come check out the market area, have a free hot dog, and enjoy the free bluegrass concert featuring the Grass Cats.

Music begins at 6pm. The Grass Cats are known for entertaining audiences with their live performances. Their shows feature “lively foot-stomping fiddle and banjo music, bluegrass classics, tight vocal harmonies and chart-topping original songs.” The Grass Cats sometimes perform “covers” of songs from artists like Eric Clapton, Duke Ellington and Tim McGraw.

The Rocky Mount Farmers Market is located at 1006 Peachtree Street in Rocky Mount NC.  Opening day for the market is April 2, 2016, from 8am to 1pm. The market’s 2016 schedule is:

  • April – November
    Saturdays @ 8am-1pm
  • June – August
    Saturdays and Wednesdays @ 8am-1pm

The market schedule is designed to best connect with local farms and producers based on seasonal availability. According to the market website, “Emphasis is given to the quality and uniqueness of products and the personalities of our local farmers.” Last year’s market included products like hard cider and grits alongside fresh produce including cabbage, beans, cauliflower, and greens, plus local honey and meats.
