Winter weather is expected to bring rain and snow to the city of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, this weekend.
Rocky Mount Public Works & Water Resources Director Jonathan Boone said bridges, overpasses and major thoroughfares are being treated with brine in anticipation of weather that is expected to arrive late Saturday and throughout the day Sunday. Boone said:
“We have mounted salt/sand spreaders and snow plows in order to prepare for whatever this weather system brings us. We will continue to monitor the situation and will respond accordingly. In anticipation of some amount of snow and ice, we have placed several employees in the division on standby status.”
The Rocky Mount Police Department urges drivers to slow down and use extreme caution when driving in icy road conditions. Said Rocky Mount Police Sergeant Brad Summerlin:
“Leave earlier and allow yourself extra driving time if you have to go out.”
