Tar River Reservoir Gate Temporarily Lowered

By Tameka Kenan-Norman, City of Rocky Mount NC

The north bascule gate at the Tar River Water Supply Reservoir has been temporarily lowered for routine maintenance and repairs to the hydraulic controls associated with the south gate. Once complete, the north gate will be raised and the south gate lowered to accommodate work on the north gate.
One of the two gates will remain lowered until approximately Thursday, December 15, 2016. As a result, there could be an increase of water flow released downstream for several hours; however, downstream river levels are expected to remain well below flood-level for the duration of the week.
