Economic Outlook, State of Agriculture Address on Tap at 12th Annual Event

By Brian Long, NCDA&CS

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) is hosting two events for farmers and agribusinesses. Both events are scheduled for February 2, 2017 in the Holshouser Building at the State Fairgrounds.

The 12th annual Agricultural Development Forum will focus on the 2017 economic outlook for NC agriculture. It will take place 9:30am-12:30pm.

Following a short lunch break, the department will host an information session on agricultural energy market opportunities for NC farmers.

Admission to both events is free and lunch will be provided, but registration is requested by January 31, 2017. Both events are being held in conjunction with the Southern Farm Show.

Register online at www.ncagr.gov/agforum. Individuals with questions may contact Christina Waggett at 919.707.3008.

Said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler:

“At the forum, agricultural economists Michael Walden and Blake Brown of NC State University will present their economic outlook for our state’s agriculture industry. They will offer insight into the challenges and opportunities that 2017 holds for our farmers and agribusinesses.”

In addition, Ray Starling, chief of staff for Sen. Thom Tillis, will provide a federal legislative update. There also will be a panel discussion about agriculture’s important role in emergency response, and Troxler will deliver his annual “State of Agriculture” address.

The afternoon session will focus on information about state, federal and private programs that provide energy market opportunities for agricultural producers.
