For the month of August 2018, Hilltop Home and The Busy Bookworms are partnering to raise $10,000 in new Usborne Books and More (UBAM) items for Hilltop Home’s library collection.

Often forgotten in the discussion about fostering a love for reading are children with special needs. Even more ignored are the children with profound intellectual and developmental disabilities, such as those at Hilltop Home.

This is where your sponsorship can help our efforts to bring the joy of books and reading to the children at Hilltop Home.

Hilltop Home is a Raleigh, North Carolina based private, nonprofit, Intermediate Care Facility that supports children with severe to profound intellectual and developmental disabilities and who are medically fragile. Hilltop Home provides an early intervention developmental program for children who are under five years of age in an intimate, homelike residential setting.

Recognized by North Carolina Dept. of Public Instruction as a certified non-public school, Hilltop Home offers a quality educational program contracted through Wake County Public Schools for children ages five years and above. Both programs assist children with multiple disabilities to reach their fullest potential.

Hilltop Home Executive Director, Diane VanHusen, and Program Director, Diane Scoggins, released a joint statement about the fundraiser:

“Books are for EVERYONE, including children with disabilities! We love books here at Hilltop Home, and are excited to bring shiny new books into our home! Books open up a world unknown to children and adults alike.

“The children at Hilltop Home spend many hours enjoying both leisure and academic activities that incorporate literacy. One moment their teachers are whisking them away on an undersea adventure, and the next they are enjoying story time with a friend. The children at Hilltop Home experience the world in unique ways, and quality literature assists staff in taking the children on new adventures through vivid picture books and exciting stories.

“Hilltop Home looks forward to working with The Busy Bookworms to bring quality literature into the home that engages our children in experiencing worlds unknown.”

The Busy Bookworms, also based in Raleigh NC, specializes in helping non-profits, schools, and other entities that wish to fundraise for children’s literacy. UBAM is the 2014 Children’s Publisher of the Year and The Busy Bookworm’s distributor of choice for  children with special needs. UBAM books are:

  • Interactive and filled with action, detail, and visual stimulation.
  • Perfect for sequencing, breaking down concepts, and increasing understanding.
  • Activity-based which is optimal for children with special learning needs.
  • Multi-functional with one book being used for a variety of goals.

Donations from the Raleigh business community for the purchase of UBAM books would be appreciated, with various levels of sponsorship are outlined on the fundraiser web page.

In exchange, all sponsors may add any marketing/promotional material to the “sponsor packets” given to the parents of the children at Hilltop Home. Further benefits of sponsorship in the Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, Advocate, Sustainer, and Supporter categories include being thanked on their individual social media platforms and in all promotions done on various Raleigh community pages. Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsors also receive additional benefits. The Hilltop Home Sponsorship Levels and Benefits Flyer will be emailed upon request. Efforts will be made to ensure that sponsors derive the most from their donations including brand visibility and recognition.

All donations, 100%, will go toward the purchase of UBAM books.
