“Tackle The Tar” Event Coming May 14 to Support Local Higher Education

Released by Kristen Brabble, Chair – Tackle the Tar

The first ever mud run is coming to Rocky Mount on May 14, 2016, at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex.

Tackle the Tar, hosted by the Rocky Mount Rotary Club, will be filled with family-friendly fun, comradery, and charity. The festivities will include a 5k mud run complete with a challenging but fun obstacle course, live music – The Breeze Band, Moonshine Band, 7th Hour Grooves, & Runaway Cab, food trucks galore, bounce houses, beer and wine selections, entertainment and more. The first heat of the 5k will begin at 10:00 a.m. and festivities will continue throughout the entire day. Cash prizes of $2,000, $1,000, and $500 will be awarded to the top three performers in the timed heats of the 5k run. To overcome the obstacles, participants should be prepared to climb walls, scale under wire and race through sections of mud.

Funds raised from Tackle the Tar will go toward scholarship money for local students to attend local colleges.  This helps students from the Rocky Mount and surrounding communities attend either Nash Community College, Edgecombe Community College, or North Carolina Wesleyan for a largely discounted cost – resulting in a win-win situation for the entire community.

“You will not want to miss all of the action and fun at our first annual Tackle the Tar event on Saturday, May 14,” said Kristen Brabble, chair of Tackle the Tar. “This family-friendly event not only will provide attendees with a fun and exciting experience, but it will also support local students living in our local community having the chance of a lifetime and pursuing their educational goals by attending college. This event is a no-brainer for our local communities as it empowers these students to continue their education and contribute to our local economy. It is no doubt that education is an important key to personal attainment as well as a contributor to the economic development of our region. I highly encourage you to attend and support Rocky Mount’s first ever mud run.”

Tackle the Tar is a mud run and day of fun activities the whole family can enjoy taking place at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex, 600 Independence Drive, in Rocky Mount NC. The first heat will begin at 10am and festivities will continue throughout the rest of the day. Activities include the 5k obstacle course race that courses through the Rocky Mount Sports Complex and E.B. Grain Company property, which comes complete with a mud pit and 12+ obstacles to overcome, a food truck rodeo, where attendees will find all types of food being served including local home-style favorites, live entertainment and charity.

All proceeds from Tackle the Tar will be used to fund scholarships for local students to attend local colleges.
