East Regional Library, located at 946 Steeple Square Court, Knightdale NC, is offering events covering music, arts, archeology, Tai Chi, story times, slime, and more during the month of September.

Express Book Bags

Too busy to select books for you to read?  We will do it for you!  Fill out a brief form and we’ll prepare a bag of three books to take home.  Just give us 48 hours’ notice and some of your reading interests, it’s that easy!  Available: At our regional libraries only.

Get Physical: Tai Chi  (Tuesday, September  5th,  2017  @ 7-8pm)

Get healthy in your neighborhood! The Taoist Tai Chi Society offers classes throughout Wake County. Learn about the benefits of this martial art and take a sample beginners class. Registration requested.  Class will be held outside weather permitting or Quiet Study Room

Local Music in the Library (Friday, September 8, 2017 @ 11am-noon)

Performing Arts in your neighborhood! Enjoy an hour of music performed local musician or musical group Shenette Swann: Soul Music. No registration required.

Meet the (local) Artist (Wednesday, September 13, 2017 @ 7-8pm)

Stop in and talk to a local artist about their creations. No registration required.

Meet Local Author Deborah Dunn (Tuesday, September 26, 2017 @ 7-8pm)

Drawing on her love of archaeology and the legends surrounding   “The Coffins” author Deborah Dunn has woven a spell-binding murder mystery about a young archaeologist. Come learn about this historic topic, her writing and research process. Books available for purchase and for checkout.

North Carolina Author Tea (Saturday, September 30, 2017  @ 2-3:30pm)

You are cordially invited to our North Carolina Author Tea at the East Regional Library.  Bring your favorite teacup for tea and cookies. Sip while you meet some local authors- John Kessel and Charlie Lovett; learn about their books, characters and writing process. Registration requested.

Youth Services

Baby Storytime (Tuesdays and Wednesdays @ 11:30am)

Babies and their caregivers are invited to participate in a 20 minute lapsit program that incorporates age appropriate books, music, rhymes, and movement.

 Toddler Storytime (Tuesdays and Wednesdays @ 9:30am and 10:30am  &  Fridays @ 10:30am and 11:30am)

Children from walkers to age 3 and their caregivers are invited to participate in a 25 minute interactive program that incorporates age appropriate books, music, rhymes, and movement.

Preschool Storytime (Mondays @ 10:30am and 11:30am  &  Thursdays @ 9:30am, 10:30am, and 11:30am)

Children ages 3-5 and their caregivers are invited to participate in an interactive program that incorporates age appropriate books, songs, and movement to nurture pre-reading skills.

Family Storytime (Saturdays @ 10:30am)

Young children and their families are invited to participate in an interactive program that incorporates age appropriate books, songs and movement to nurture pre-reading skills.

ABC Craft and Learn: A Kindergarten Readiness Program (Saturdays @ 11:30am)

Children ages 3-5 and their caregivers are invited to participate in an interactive alphabet-based program to nurture pre-reading skills and to develop fine motor skills through writing, play, and an alphabet craft.

Family Super Special: Instrument Petting Zoo (Wednesday, September 27, 2017 @ 6-7pm)

Come visit with the musicians of the Raleigh/Durham Sigma Alpha Iota professional music fraternity and let the kids have a hands-on opportunity to explore instruments and the sounds that they make. Registration recommended.

School-Aged

 K-2nd Adventures (Tuesdays @ 6pm)  &  3rd-5th Adventures (Thursdays @ 4:30pm)

K-2nd and 3rd-5th grade kids read, create, discover and explore through books, activities and more.

  • K-2 Adventures: Indoor Sports (Tuesday, September 12, 2017 @ 6pm) — On your mark, get set, and join us as we read a book, play an activity and create a table football game to take home.
  • 3rd-5th Adventures: Create Outside the Lines Paint Like Pollock (Thursday, September 14, 2017 @ 4:30pm) — Create a stained glass effect as you drizzle, drip and design like Jackson Pollock. Registration requested.
  • 3rd-5th Adventures: Dare to Discover (Thursday, September 21, 2017 @ 4:30pm) — Robo-pigs! Construct a robotic pig that shakes, rattles, and totally rocks. All materials provided. Registration is requested for this event.

K-5th Super Special: The Basketball Spin Man (Saturday, September 16, 2017 @ 2-3pm)

Get in on the action and see if the Spin Man can spin 11 basketballs at one time!

K-5th Super Special:  Slime Fest! (Friday, September 22, 2017 @ 3:30pm)

Stretch, squish, and squeeze at sensational slime stations! For K-5th graders and their families. Registration Requested.
