Pay It Forward Civitan Club and the city of Rocky Mount Parks and Recreation department are partnering to host the annual prom for special populations. The prom includes live music and great food for high school juniors and seniors, as well as adults.

Taking place on April 30, 2016, the prom runs 6-9pm. It is being held at the Rocky Mount Shrine Club, located at 320 Airport Road, in Rocky Mount.

“Some participants have historically been in their 60’s,” says Francheskia Fenderson, teen coordinator for the city of Rocky Mount. “The prom creates new memories for high school juniors and seniors, and it allows adults to re-live their high school moments.”

This year’s event has also been dubbed a red carpet affair as the Parks and Recreation Department introduces new components, such as cosmetology services for women provided by Nash Community College. Edgecombe Community College will offer hair and grooming for the male attendees at no charge.

Plus, Ms. Fenderson noted that if you plan on attending the prom and RSVP before the event, your name will be placed in a raffle for a free limo ride, sponsored by First Class Limousine Services of Rocky Mount NC.

The attire for the event is formal, and the Salvation Army will open their doors to provide free clothing and accessories for those in need. To receive any of these services, including cosmetology or grooming services, attire from the Salvation Army, or to be entered into the drawing for a free limo ride, you must plan to attend the prom, have a paid RSVP spot, and you must call 252.467.4925 to make an appointment.

“We have worked diligently to make sure this prom is a wonderful experience for everyone,” says Fenderson. “By offering free accessories and grooming services, we hope even more people will be able to attend and enjoy this year’s prom for special populations.”

Admission to the prom is $5 for registrations before April 15, 2016. After April 15, the cost is $8. For more information, call 252.467.4925.
