Perseids Meteor Shower Party (August 12, 2016 @ 3am-5pm)

This meteor shower is expected to the most phenomenal in 2016. 180 meteors per hour are forecasted. Bring a chair and blanket! Use self-service near the front gate if not camping. Sign-up with the Visitor Center at 719.687.2366. Open to all ages. Visitors Center at Mueller State Park’s address is 21045 Highway 67 South, Divide CO. Four Mile Free Day (August 12, 2016 @ noon-4pm)

Come by the Four Mile Historic Park, 715 S Forest Street, Denver CO and check out historic demonstrations, tour the Four Mile House Museum, explore the grounds, sample a treat from the kitchen, and see farm animals. A “Hay Bales & Tall Tales” story time runs 12-1pm. No pets allowed. Travel back to 1859…for free! More information at www.fourmilepark.org.

Community Back 2 School Bash (August 12, 2016 @ 3pm)

Held at the Wyatt Academy, 3620 Franklin Street, Denver CO. Wyatt Academy is holding this second annual event. Bring your children, friends, and family, for bike fix-ups, free haircuts, free BBQ, games, prizes, and more. 16th Street Fair (August 12-13, 2016 @ 11am-7pm)

Fair at the 16th Street Mall, in downtown Denver CO. Take a stroll along the 16th Street Mall to enjoy a showcase of emerging artists and designers, producing original and unique handmade goods, in a wide array of media. More information at www.16thstfair.com.

Jeffco Fair and Festival (August 11-14, 2016)

Rodeo, music, kids entertainment, craft beer, Tent Talks, and more for all ages at the Jeffco Fair & Festival, coming up at the Jeffco Fairgrounds, Jeffco Fairgrounds, 15200 West 6th Avenue, Golden CO. Musical performances cover Americana, folk, country music, swing bands, rock bands, and more. The Jeffco District Attorney’s Community Safety Fair is being held 9am-1pm in conjunction with the 2016 Jeffco Fair & Festival. With over 80 booths and displays, this event offers a complete range of safety services for adults, kids and seniors as well as valuable demonstrations and giveaways.

Calling All Zombies! (August 12, 2016 @ 3pm)

Teens! Join Emiko Martinez for a free introductory face painting class focused on creating zombies. Learn the basics of face painting materials, tools, and techniques and how to turn yourself or a partner into a realistic-looking walking corpse. Limited to 15 participants. For grades 6-12. No registration required. Held at the Valdez-Perry Branch Library, 4690 Vine Street, Denver CO.

Mueller 25th Anniversary Celebration (August 13, 2016 @ 10am-3pm)

Stay the weekend, and after Friday’s meteor shower party, stay for Saturday and celebrate Mueller State Parks 25th Anniversary. There will be Old Fashion Games, Seven Falls Indian Dancers,  Guest Speakers, cake, US Air Force Falconry Program, Storyteller John Stansfield,  S’mores, and Touch tables.  Open to all ages. Saturday Afternoon Family Movie (August 13, 2016 @ 2-4pm)

The Skull of Pancho Villa and Other Stories (August 14, 2016 @ 2-4pm)

Held in the Lena Archuleta Community Room at the Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales Branch Library, 1498 N. Irving Street, Denver Co.

Join us for a fascinating author visit where Manuel Ramos, a Denver author of The Skull of Pancho Villa and Other Stories, will tell us all about his book and the stories within. Manuel Ramos is the recipient of several literary awards and the author of numerous novels, including Desperado: A Mile High Noir (2013), King of the Chicanos (2010), Brown-on-Brown: A Luis Montez Mystery (2003), and The Ballad of Rocky Ruiz (1993: 2004), an Edgar Award finalist.
