“Humorous Hoaxes and Sleazy Scams in Colorado History”

A presentation of “Humorous Hoaxes and Sleezy Scams in Colorado History” is coming in January to the Golden History Center. The presenter will give listeners a look at the strange scams pulled on early Colorado residents, in a fun and informative story-telling format.

According to the website:

In this entertaining presentation you will learn about the crazy things that people believed which bilked them out of their life savings during the early years of Colorado. Hoaxes and scams were prevalent during the 19th century including “the great diamond hoax” and “McGinty the petrified man.” Learn about the despicable crime boss who lived in the Golden area from historian and storyteller Ed Weising.

This storytelling event is being held at the Golden History Center, located at 923 10th Street, in Golden CO. Plan to come on Saturday, January 23, 2016, from 1-3pm, to hear strange stories of bunco in old Colorado.

The fee to attend is $10 members, or slightly more for non-members. To register, click this link: https://rec.cityofgolden.net/wbwsc/webtrac.wsc/wbsearch.html?wbp=2&wbsi=si&xxmod=tk
