City of Rocky Mount (November 11, 2017)
By Tameka Kenan-Norman
The city of Rocky Mount will host its next Rabies Vaccination Clinic on Saturday, November 11, 2017, 9am-noon, at the former Rocky Mount Animal Shelter, at 1101 N Church Street, Rocky Mount NC. The event, administered by Hicks Animal Clinic, is held often in order to provide safety for animals, and ultimately humans, from exposure to the disease.
“We host approximately two clinics per year because of the need for and importance of vaccinations,” says Willie Boykin, city of Rocky Mount animal control supervisor. “Vaccinations are required by law, and every animal that is four months of age or older must have a rabies shot.”
According to Boykin, the first rabies shot is good for one year provided that the next shot is given prior to its expiration. If the first shot does not expire, the second shot will last for three years.
“These clinics also provide a safe and convenient way for our residents to obtain vaccinations for their pets,” says Boykin.
The Rabies Vaccination Clinic is for cats and dogs only, four months and older. Pets must be on leashes or in carriers, and the cost is just $5 per pet, cash only. Animal adoptions are also available.
