The city of Rocky Mount will host a Fun Bike Ride and Rodeo on Saturday, May 5, 2018.

The Fun Bike Ride will begin at 10am and will start and end at Sunset Park. The 6.5 mile route will take riders through four national historic districts, downtown, and the Tar River Trail.

Bob League, principal transportation planner for the city of Rocky Mount and event organizer, says the Fun Bike Ride gives riders an opportunity to experience some of the beautiful scenery Rocky Mount has to offer. It’s also a way for the community to celebrate National Bike Month, which takes place in May.

Says League:

“This is an annual event which has garnered a lot of participation and positive attention. This is a family affair along a safe, scenic route. It also provides an opportunity for everyone to have a great time.”

Riders will be provided a map and given police escorts during the ride.

The Fun Bike Ride is free and open to riders of all ages. Riders should check in by 9:30am. Children are required to wear a helmet and must be supervised by an adult. According to League, the ride is not a race; it’s just fun.

Pre-registration is requested to participate in the Rocky Mount Fun Bike Ride. To register, visit rockymountnc.gov/bike. All pre-registered riders will receive a free hot dog lunch.

The Bike Rodeo for younger children will be conducted from 9am to 10am. The rodeo teaches safe riding practices to those learning to ride, and potentially prepare them for Fun Bike Ride events in future years.
