Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

By Tameka Kenan-Norman, City of Rocky Mount

On Saturday, November 12, 2016, Keep America Beautiful (KAB) of Rocky Mount, Nash and Edgecombe counties, will host a recycling event for America Recycles Day.

The local celebration will be from 10am to 1pm at the Golden East Crossing Mall, located at 1100 N Wesleyan Blvd, Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Come to the parking lot near JCPenney to participate.

“America Recycles Day provides a free, convenient way for you to dispose of household waste safely and responsibly,” says Cornelia McGee, KAB coordinator for the city of Rocky Mount.

This household waste consists of confidential documents and paper (up to four bags or boxes), old electronics and unwanted or unused prescription drugs. Paint, engine oil and liquid household waste will not be recycled.

“Reduce, reuse, recycle is more than a slogan; it is a lifestyle,” says McGee. “The less we waste, the better our environment will be, and not just for this generation, but for the next.”

Shredding during America Recycles Day will be performed by Shred It of North Carolina. American Greenz, Inc. will collect the electronics. The Rocky Mount Police Department will also collect unwanted and unused prescription drugs and medicines.

The event is free to the public; however, monetary donations will be accepted for KAB of Nash and Edgecombe counties. For more information, call 252.467.4960.
