Calling all Frank and Ava fans for a fun weekend in Smithfield, North Carolina. The Ava Gardner Museum will be showing movies and offering special events at the museum and the nearby Howell Theatre. This weekend will be a fantastic event for fans of old Hollywood, movie buffs, and groups.

On Saturday, October 21, 2017, the Ava Gardner Museum will show two vintage movies on their 60th anniversary. Both movies will be shown in the museum’s theatre and are included in the cost of admission. Admission to the museum is $10 for adults and $9 for seniors, groups, and military. Wrist bands will be provided for the day so visitors may come and go from the museum to enjoy Downtown Smithfield for lunch and other activities.

The two films showing on Saturday are Pal Joey and The Little Hut.

  • Released in 1957, Frank Sinatra’s Pal Joey, a musical-comedy starring Rita Hayworth and Kim Novak, features such Ava torch songs as “My Funny Valentine”.
  • Ava Gardner’s The Little Hut, starring Stewart Granger and David Niven, is a comedy where two men compete for Ava’s affection while stranded on an island.

On Sunday, October 22, 2017, Tony Sands will perform “It Was a Very Good Year” at the Historic Howell Theatre. Sands performs this tribute to Frank Sinatra around the country, taking the audience on a musical journey. It is as if Frank walks off the screen and performs in person. Shows will be at 2pm and 4pm.

The Ava Gardner Museum will open early on Sunday, at noon, for visitors to tour the museum prior to the show. Tickets for the show are $20 and available through the museum or online at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3051348.

The Ava Gardner Museum address is 325 E Market Street, Smithfield NC. The Howell Theatre is located just around the block from the museum. The theatre address is 141 S 3rd Street, Smithfield NC.

Visitors to Smithfield may stay overnight October 20, at the Best Western Smithfield Inn near Carolina Premium Outlets and receive a “Frank and Ava Weekend” gift bag with coupons and Ava swag. Call the hotel directly at 919.989.4047 to reserve a room for $77.99 (two queen beds).
