On Thursday, May 4, 2017, starting at 6pm, the Rocky Mount Police Department will hold an interest meeting for those who would like to host a “National Night Out” event in their community.
The meeting will be held in the RMPD’s training room, 330 S Church Street, Rocky Mount NC.
National Night Out is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood relationships and has consistently grown in Rocky Mount over the last several years. Neighborhoods are encouraged to host events that bring the community together. Police officers are also invited to help promote crime prevention.
Historically, communities have coordinated everything from block parties and cook outs to back-to-school events and much more. This year’s National Night Out is scheduled for Tuesday, August 1, 2017.
Said Yvette Jones, community services supervisor for the Rocky Mount Police Department:
“We have had great success with National Night Out in the last few years. This year, we hope to increase the participation from our communities. The meeting will help participants understand what resources are available to them when it comes to National Night Out.”
Information that will be shared during the meeting includes where to find resources for items such as tables and chairs, who to contact to block off streets or reserve parks and other logistical items.
For more information on the National Night Out interest meeting, the public is encouraged to call 252.972.1436.
