City to Showcase Housing Enhancements and Initiate New Revitalization Planning with Week of Activities

There are several community development activities taking place in Rocky Mount, North Carolina the week of November 13, 2017.
On November 13, Beal Street Square Apartments is celebrating its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The ceremony to celebrate this milestone will be held 10:30am at 564 Beal Street, Rocky Mount NC. Special guests include local and state representatives, as well as representatives from the North Carolina Housing and Finance Agency.
Beal Street Square Apartments is comprised of 80 affordable housing units, 20 one-bedroom units and 60 two-bedroom units. The complex also boasts a community center, 24-hour fitness center, laundry facility, computer lab, children’s playground and outdoor picnic shelters.
On November 14, a groundbreaking ceremony will mark the start of construction for Ravenwood Crossing, a new $9 million, 80-unit affordable rental community for families, singles and seniors. At 9am, the developer, The Woda Group, Inc. and the city of Rocky Mount, will host a ceremony at the South Rocky Mount Community Center. The center is located at 719 Recreation Drive. Immediately following the ceremony, a groundbreaking will be held at the adjacent Ravenwood Crossing building site. At 5:30pm, an informal family event will be held at the community center, including games, food and information about the new property.
On November 16, the city of Rocky Mount Redevelopment Commission will host two community meetings to start the redevelopment planning process for the Around the Wye and Southeast Rocky Mount neighborhoods. The Redevelopment Commission has chosen the greater Around the Wye neighborhood, including a portion of the Southeast Rocky Mount neighborhood, as the focus of its redevelopment efforts. Two meetings will take place at Truth Tabernacle Church, 704 Arlington Street. Participants may discuss the redevelopment process and preliminary plans for the community. The meeting will also provide an opportunity for residents and community members to voice their ideas for the neighborhood. The same information will be shared at both a 10am and 6pm meeting.
