Full Scale Productions will premiere its documentary Jewish American Soldiers: Stories from World War II on Sunday, November 12, 2017, at Regal Ballantyne Village Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, to coincide with the Veterans Day holiday weekend.
The documentary, produced in conjunction with the local non-profit Hornet’s Nest Jewish War Veterans Post 765, chronicles the unique experiences of 12 Charlotte-area World War II veterans in the 1940s. Hornet’s Nest Commander, Steve Russak, is pleased that the film provides an insight into the service experiences of those veterans, which has not been told before. Russak points out that “the film engages and educates the viewer, which is what I wanted when the project was envisioned.”
Full Scale Productions’ President and Jewish American Soldiers: Stories from World War II Director/ Producer, Glenn Fishkin, says the film “became a passion project for the entire team. The opportunity to tell the stories of these American heroes is a privilege I am honored to have.”
Jewish American Soldiers: Stories from World War II is part of the Charlotte Jewish Film Festival’s Fall Flicks lineup. Festival chair, Jeff Turk, shares that “we are especially proud to present this film as it highlights local members of the greatest generation, and, it was created here in Charlotte. The response has been overwhelming.”
The film was made possible by the generous donations of many individuals, companies, and organizations, including The Jewish Federation of Charlotte, The Leon Levine Foundation, and one of the featured veterans, Jerry Levin, along with his wife Barbara.
“The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte appreciates and values the first-hand accounts of the very personal stories represented in the film, and is proud to support the preservation of Jewish World War II veterans’ legacies for future generations,” says Sue Worrel, Chief Executive Officer of the Federation.
Jewish American Soldiers: Stories from World War II creators hope the film will increase educational and awareness opportunities, and are still accepting donations towards these efforts at www.gofundme.com/jews-ww2-doc.
