Variety of Rocky Mount NC Events Coming Up

The City of Rocky Mount NC and local organizations have events coming up this summer. Most are free and open to the public, while others are for specific age groups.

10th Anniversary Celebration

The Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences is celebrating 10 years. It’s free admission on Friday, June 17, 2016, for the Imperial Centre’s 10-year anniversary celebration and summer kick-off.

The event will take place 6-8:30pm and features live music, free admission to the latest exhibit in the Children’s Museum and Science Center, “Trivial Pursuit: A 50 State Adventure,” A No Shame Open Mic Night, and Lawn Chair Theatre.

Real Men Kook for Kids

As part of the HUD Father’s Day Weekend, Real Mean Kook for Kids will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016, 10am-3pm, at Sunset Park in Rocky Mount NC.

The Rocky Mount Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., the Boys & Girls Clubs of Nash and Edgecombe counties, and the Rocky Mount Parks and Recreation department are in their fifth year of hosting the event. Real Men Kook for Kids is to increase interaction between youth and positive men in the community. Proceeds from Real Men Kook for Kids will support the club’s Passport to Manhood program, which teaches boys and young men things like how to treat ladies and how to become positive adults.

Summer Night Lights

Summer Night Lights returns to various parks in Rocky Mount NC. The free, block party style program features organized sports, inflatables, a live DJ, face painting, and more. Summer Night Lights takes place 6-8pm and alternates between multiple parks.

  • June 17, 2016 — Buck Leonard Park, 929 S Grace Street. (CANCELLED due to weather)
  • June 24, 2016 — MLK Park, 800 East Virginia Street.
  • July 8, 2016Aycock Park, 1200 Aycock Street.
  • July 15, 2016 — Booker T. Washington Community Center, 721 Pennsylvania Avenue.
  • July 22, 2016 — Three Sisters Park, located at 221 Walter Drive in the Battleboro community.
  • July 29, 2016 — Lancaster Park, located at 1509 Barnes Street.
  • August 5, 2016 — Summer Night Lights returns to South Rocky Mount Community Center, located at 517 Ravenwood Drive.
  • August 12, 2016 — Meadowbrook Park, located at 1742 Bedford Road.

The first 200 guests each night will receive a free hotdog, chips, and drink.

Independence Day

You’re invited to this free city of Rocky Mount’s annual Independence Celebration. Presented by PNC, the celebration will take place Sunday, July 3, 2016, 6-9:30pm, at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex, 600 Independence Dr, Rocky Mount NC.

Lawn Chair Theatre

The family friendly outdoor movie series is free and open to the public, with kids’ activities starting at 7pm and the movie starting at 8:30pm. Lawn Chair Theatre at the Imperial Centre including these movies:

  • Zootopia — July 15, 2016
  • Inside Out — July 29, 2016

The Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences is located at 270 Gay Street, in Rocky Mount NC. All movies are on the Imperial Centre lawn. In the event of rain, Lawn Chair Theatre will be held in the Imperial Centre’s Education Building.
