If you’ve been waiting to pick fresh strawberries right from a Franklin County field, April 15, 2016, is your opportunity. Vollmer Farm in Bunn NC is opening for Spring picking on April 15, 2016, starting at 10am and running until about 7pm.
During the April 15 opening, there will be family fun, music, and food. Jamie Pridgen Music will be serving up the tunes, while the Tasty Tunes Food Truck out of Louisburg NC will be serving up burgers, dogs, cheese steaks, hand-cut fries, fresh-cooked pork skins, and other tasty treats.
The farm’s market, kids play area, and ice cream shop will be open all day. And there will be certified-organic strawberry picking. Don’t forget that! The berries are ready on the plants, with “U-Pick” strawberries available for $3.50 per pound.
Vollmer Farm is located in Franklin County at 677 NC Hwy 98 East, in Bunn NC.

Note that for weekends in 2016, the farm will be offering music and Tasty Tunes Food Truck. As with prior years, the “Back 40” play area offers kids farm and play activities, including lessons for groups and attractions like the giant pumpkin (orange) trampoline.
Vollmer Farm is a fifth-generation family farm focused on producing “wholesome, organic produce” and providing visitors with a “real farm” experience. The farm is led by farmer Russell Vollmer, affectionately known as Uncle Russell, who learned about “farming, life, faith, love, and giving back” from his father, Farmer John. John passed away in 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.
The farm participated in the Farm Aid 2014 event in Raleigh, with Uncle Russell serving on a panel of NC farmers alongside the Farm Aid organizers.
