Rocky Mount, NC Parks and Recreation Earns State Grant Award of $38K

The city of Rocky Mount Parks and Recreation Department has been awarded a grant of approximately $38,000 from the North Carolina Science Museums Grant Program.

Said Parks and Recreation Director Elton Daniels:

“Our grant award will enable us to continue to offer multiple STEAM-based traveling exhibits as well as purchase a limited number of permanent exhibits.”

The NC Science Museums Grant Program provides operational support to eligible museums across the state. Award criteria is set by the North Carolina State Government and includes but is not limited to the economic distress of the county and the proximity to other science or STEAM education museums.

“Be The Astronaut,” has been a prominent STEAM exhibit at the Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences during 2019. The Imperial Centre also offered a pair of STEM LEGO camps during the summer and is set to welcome and a new STEAM-based exhibit Spin: “The Science of Rotation” in fall 2019.
