The North Carolina MLK State Commission is hosting an educational outreach initiative called, “The Content of Character.” The event will include panel discussions and break-out sessions, in conjunction with music, games, food, and activities for participants.
The Content of Character is organized in partnership with United Shiloh, Inc. and Compass Youth Centers, Inc. It is being held June 18, 2016, at Coley Springs Missionary Baptist Church, 224 Parktown Road, Warrenton NC. The 11am to 3pm event is free.
Panel topics of discussion include bullying, social media, peer pressure, and much more. Guest panelists from across the state and Washington DC will participate. Guest Panelists include:

- Tare Davis, NC Highway Patrol and Warren County Board of Commissioners
- Jaden Alston, a student at Carrington Middle School, Durham NC
- Jordan Bonner, a student at Fike High School, Wilson NC
- Alexis Jordan, a student at Warren County High School, Warrenton NC
- Xzavian Carter, a student at Warren County High School, Warrenton NC
The Keynote Motivational Speaker is none other than Anthony “Ant” Atkinson of the Harlem Globetrotters, a native son of Wilson NC and alumnus of Barton College.
The public is invited to engage in dialogue with the panelists and community members with the moderator, State Martin Luther King, Jr. Commissioner Jacquie Jeffers.
Ms. Jeffers says,
There will be engaging dialogue, food and fun. Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to meet our 16 Martin Luther King, Jr. Commissioners and have a better understanding of our role with the legacy of Dr. King’s dream of diversity and understanding the urgency to ignite unity in our communities.
